Setlists

I just realized something: I've been forgetting to post setlists. The setlist dork in me is shocked and disturbed by this trend, and so I'll make it up starting...now (with "holy shit!" moments in bold):

Thunder Bay
Ed solo, before Supersuckers: You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
set: Present Tense, Corduroy, Save You, Animal, Given to Fly, Cropduster, Even Flow, Small Town, Light Years, Lukin, State of Love and Trust, Down, Driven to Tears, Jeremy, Breakerfall, Porch
1st encore: Nothingman, I Am Mine, Black, Alive
2nd encore: Last Kiss, Rockin' in the Free World, Yellow Ledbetter
brief notes: Both Ed and Mike joined the Supersuckers on-stage, Mike with a cover of "Cowboy Song" by Thin Lizzy, Ed on "Poor Girl" and "I Believe in Miracles" (during which he pulled a fan wearing a Ramones t-shirt out of the crowd to lend a hand with back-up vocals, before Ed jumped on his back and piggybacked around the stage while singing). "Present Tense" is a shock opener, but the rest of the set is fairly standard; in fact, this was the first Pearl Jam concert I ever saw where I heard zero songs I'd never heard live before. Also, from where we were sitting (seventh row floors) the crowd seemed quiet; the band seemed to recognize that this wasn't a "Pearl Jam crowd" per se, and responded with a bunch of radio hits (including a "Last Kiss" in which Eddie scaled the seats behind the stage and sang facing the entire audience--way cool, by the way). "RitFW" was utter chaos, with the Supersuckers joining Pearl Jam on stage and Eddie Spaghetti's young son Quattro helping up with flashing devil horns and "yeah!"s screamed into a microphone. Empirically, this probably isn't even a top ten show; subjectively, it was the most special concert I'll ever attend.

London
Ed solo, before Sleater-Kinney: Growin' Up
set: Oceans, Breakerfall, Corduroy, Hail Hail, Animal, Glorified G, Black Red Yellow, In My Tree, Better Man, You Are, Not for You, Jeremy, Wishlist, Even Flow, Bleed for Me, Rearviewmirror
1st encore: Nothing As It Seems, Off He Goes, Hard to Imagine, Alive
2nd encore: Go, Grievance, Small Town, State of Love and Trust, Smile, Rockin' in the Free World
brief notes: "Growin' Up" is a Bruce Springsteen song (from Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ). Lots of surprises tonight, none greater than "Hard to Imagine" (although "Black Red Yellow" came close...too bad it's just not that great a song). The band was more into tonight's performance than I think I've ever seen them...I mean, Mike did about eight splits during "Not for You" alone! "Tree" gets a second straight outing in the 519, while "Better Man" features what sounds like "Modern Girl" by Sleater-Kinney as a tag. Searing versions of "Bleed for Me" and "Rearviewmirror". The second encore had a very State College, "where do we go now?" vibe, and featured an hysterical moment in which Stone, clad in plaid pants, did the phunkiest butts-wigglin' dance you've ever seen with Matt and Jeff providing accompaniment. Incredible show...just incredible.
Sleater Kinney's set: The Fox, Wilderness, Step Aside, Modern Girl, Rollercoaster, Jumpers, Sympathy, Let's Call it Love, Entertain
